LEED Category: Materials and Resources (MR)

MR Credit(s) 4.1 and 4.2 Recycled Content: Post-Industrial. At least 88% (ALKEMI-acrylic) and 34% (ALKEMI-polyester), of the weight of the product produced at the above referenced manufacturing facility is post-industrial content (aluminum milling flake, acrylic and solid surface waste), as defined by the Guidelines for the use of Environmental Marketing Claims, 16 CFR 260.7 (e), available here.

260.7 Environmental marketing claims.

(e) Recycled content: A recycled content claim may be made only for materials that have been recovered or otherwise diverted from the solid waste stream, either during the manufacturing process (pre-consumer), or after consumer use (post-consumer). To the extent the source of recycled content includes pre-consumer material, the manufacturer or advertiser must have substantiation for concluding that the pre-consumer material would otherwise have entered the solid waste stream. In asserting a recycled content claim, distinctions may be made between pre-consumer and post-consumer materials. Where such distinctions are asserted, any express or implied claim about the specific pre-consumer or post-consumer content of a product or package must be substantiated.

Renewable Sources. ALKEMI does not claim to contain renewable sources. However, Renewed Materials can recycle ALKEMI products.  ALKEMI-acrylic can be recycled to be remade into ALKEMI-acrylic at the end of its life cycle. This process is done by granulating and reformulating.  ALKEMI-polyester can be recycled to be used as filler for ALKEMI-polyester Opaque collection. This process is done by granulating, or pulverizing, and is currently used in the production of ALKEMI - Opaque collection of products.

Locally Extracted. ALKEMI-acrylic, ALKEMI-copper and ALKEMI-polyester are made with post-industrial scrap that is generated by other industries located within the immediate geographic vicinity of its plants.

MR Credit(s) 4.2 Regional Materials: Extracted Regionally 100% of the recycled scrap used in ALKEMI products have been salvaged from the post-industrial waste stream in and around Eastern United States of America.

MR Credit(s) 4.1 Regional Materials: Manufactured Regionally ALKEMI products are produced and shipped from Maryland, New York and Georgia.  MR credits may apply for projects within a 500 mile radius of our plant.

MR Credit(s) 4.0 Indoor Environmental Quality (Low-emitting Materials): ALKEMI has no significant measurable VOC content.  Independent laboratory tests have revealed VOC parts to be less than 5 parts per Million, and less than 100 parts per Million for ALKEMI-polyester.
