Who is qualified to work with ALKEMI?
Fabrication methods of ALKEMI are very similar to conventional solid surface materials. Any experienced solid surface fabricator is qualified to fabricate and install ALKEMI.

What sized sheets does ALKEMI come in?
Standard sheets of ALKEMI are 36"x120' and 36"x96' (914mm x 3048mm and 914mm x 2438mm).
How thick is ALKEMI?
ALKEMI is sold in ½” and ¾” thicknesses (13mm and 19mm).
Can I place a hot pot on ALKEMI?
As with all solid surface materials, ALKEMI has a limited heat tolerance. Do not place hot pots directly from the stove on to the surface of ALKEMI. Protective trivets should be used to protect the ALKEMI surface from hot pots.
Can I install a cook-top on to ALKEMI countertop?
Do not recess or install cook-tops or burners directly into ALKEMI surface. A stainless steel insert or transition counter should be used for the installation of burners and cook-tops.
Can ALKEMI be damaged by acids?
Yes. ALKEMI should not be used in settings where acids or acidic products are used.
Is ALKEMI absorbent?
ALKEMI is non-absorbent
Does ALKEMI stain?
ALKEMI is stain resistant against most common liquids. Lemon juice or other acidic liquids, including red wine, if left to remain on the surface for extended period of time can stain ALKEMI. However, such stains can be sanded and polished off to restore the surface by qualified fabricators.
Can build up the edges be achieved with ALKEMI?
Edge build-up or layering and mitering techniques should be done by qualified solid surface fabricators, following the ALKEMI fabrication methods.
What applications is ALKEMI recommended for?
ALKEMI is a versatile product. It is recommended for use as both horizontal and vertical decorative surface applications. However, in any installation the material will require full substrate support.
Can ALKEMI be used as flooring?
ALKEMI should not be used for floors.
Can ALKEMI be used in food preparation areas?
Yes. ALKEMI is appropriate for use in food preparation areas.
Can ALKEMI be scratched?
ALKEMI is an extremely durable product, but like most materials ALKEMI can become scratched if abused. However, surface scratches occurring on Honed and Classic ALKEMI can be sanded and polished off by qualified fabricators.
What is the VOC content in ALKEMI?
The VOC content in ALKEMI is not detectable. Independent laboratory test have revealed that the VOC parts of ALKEMI were less than 100 parts per Million.
Does ALKEMI contain fire retardants?
Because of the toxic and environmentally detrimental qualities of clear fire retardant chemical additives, ALKEMI does not contain retardants. Clear ALKEMI should be considered C-3 and Opaque ALKEMI should be considered C-2.
Can I use ALKEMI in outdoor applications?
ALKEMI is not not recommended for outdoor use.
Is ALKEMI NSF certified?
Although the components of ALKEMI, Aluminum and Polyester, are individually NSF certifiable materials, recycled materials do not qualify for NSF certification, as the origin of recycled materials can not be traced clearly. As such, ALKEMI is not NSF certified. However, ALKEMI is guaranteed to be food safe by Renewed Materials, LLC.
Can I order custom-made sizes or colors of ALKEMI?
Custom sizes, thicknesses, and colors of ALKEMI can be produced only for 20 or more identical sheets.
Does ALKEMI require surface sealing?
No, ALKEMI does not require surface sealing. However, during fabrication cut edges of ALKEMI should be coated sealed with a clear coat of S-250 resin as explained in the ALKEMI Fabrication Manual.
What adhesive is used on ALKEMI?
ALKEMI is seamed with a clear Methacrylate adhesive. This can be purchased from Renewed Materials or from other solid surface suppliers. The adhesive is used with a conventional solid surface dispensing gun.

Can I use this to seam ALKEMI?
No! The S-250 clear coat edge sealer cannot be used to seam ALKEMI, only to seal the edges of the material.
What is the ALKEMI Classic Finish?
Aesthetically, the ALKEMI Classic Finish is very similar to the ALKEMI Textured Finish. However, an extra layer of polyester has been added then sanded and buffed smooth.
Are the ALKEMI Opaques available with either the Classic or Textured finishes?
No. ALKEMI Opaques are only available in the Honed finish.
